Packing your makeup bag for the gym

If you read yesterday's post about what to wear to the gym, today's post (and tomorrow's post) will refer to preparation for the gym. So, in the effort of continuing to stay fabulous, remember that it's always important to walk away flawless, even after a rough workout. Here are a few items that you should include in that makeup bag.

  • A travel size facial cleanser. If the facial cleanser you use has a travel size then carry that. However, if not, take a few minutes to squeeze out the facial cleanser you use into travel size tubes. These can be found at your local drug store, beauty supply store, dollar store, Walmart or Target. Using a facial bar would also be an alternative.
  • A travel size moisturizer. Remember to use the moisturizer that is appropriate for your skin type (combination, dry, oily, sensitive).
  • Foundation. Use a medium coverage foundation or choose a mineral powder foundation. Just try not to use something that will be too heavy and interfere with your pores.
  • Bronzer, Blush: This can add a little sparkle to your face and give you a great glow. It'll leave you looking refreshed rather than tired. So, make sure that you select one wisely.
  • Lip moisturizer: This can be a chapstick. It will help give moisture to your lips that may have become dry from the workout and your heavy breathing. Even having one with a little color will do to bring out your fabulousness.
  • Choose eye products carefully. I like to wear a simple dark brown eye liner after leaving the gym. It doesn't overpower like black and just leaves me with a more clean look. If you don't want to wear eye liner, choose an eyeshadow that might closer to your skin such as a midtone color. Shimmery eye shadows can also work if applied just to the lid right after a workout. Again, this gives the sense of rejuvination and glowiness (is that even a word...lol).
Don't forget your tools you need to apply these. Cosmetic sponge or brushes. Q-tips. Cotton balls. Place these in a ziplock baggie and include them in your bag as well. I know that you are now ready to pack a flawless makeup bag for the gym. Happy workout. You look fabulous......

Appropriate Gym Attire for that New Year Body

Just imagine yourself walking into the gym again. Looking around at all the bodies of women getting fit. You have far more body mass to lose to even get close to where they are. How are they able to do that? How can they maintain it? How can they even look this good and make it seem so effortless? Well, I'm not a fitness guru, but I will attempt to address the latter question.

Many women - I will raise my hand and admit that I am guilty of this too - believe that looser clothing is the best attire to wear when trying to get fit. It definitely helps in drawing attention away from those problem areas. Right? Wrong.

When you're working out, even though you may have those problem areas, you still want to look attractive. If you are trying to hide that bulge in your stomach but know you have amazing legs why not wear gym shorts or leggings? Have bigger thighs and a bootie? Wear bootcut gym pants and a fitted top. Trying to hide those big ladies that seem to greet everyone head on? Trying a halter or wrap tank might be helpful in creating that hourglass shape that you always try to achieve.

Whatever you're trying to conceal make sure the other area is complemented. It is a fashion don't to wear all baggy clothes. It gives the wrong look aesthetically and makes you seem like you really don't care about how you look. Whether you're trying to attract attention or not. Wouldn't you agree that if you are attracting attention it's positive rather than negative?

I hope that I will be seeing more (or maybe less) of you ladies in the gym soon. Looking fabulous as you work off those extra pounds for the new year. Now I'm off to my own gym for the day. Take care.....

How To Take Care of Your Skin

When I usually approach women and ask them what they use to take care of their skin they typically respond, "Just soap and water." Now this would be fine for the normal body, but when referencing your face there are many reasons why plain old soap and water just won't do. Just take a moment and think. The skin on your body is rarely visible. It's usually hidden from the public eye with various types of fabrics. Thus you can literally get away with any imperfections by just choosing a particual fabric or length of clothing and entering the world a new person. However, your face is the part of your body that is most visible on a regular basis. It is rare that you can cover this up (unless your religion or political belief requires you to follow certain guidelines). I mean even with makeup certain blemishes still can not be concealed. So, why not take the time to really focus on taking care of your face? In reality 5 years from now, 10 years from now, even 20 years from now you still have the same face. The skin might be different yes...but how you take care of your skin will determine how youthful you look.......or in some cases how old.

So, here are a few steps in taking care of your skin:
  1. Choose a facial cleanser. Make sure that it's actually a facial cleanser and not a body wash or a soap made for the body. There is a difference. The skin on our face is much more delicate than the skin on our body. Therefore,we should be treating it with a product that's specific for the face.
  2. Choose an acne treatment. After you finish cleaning your face it's important to use an acne treatment if you have blemishes or severe acne. For some, this is a daily (sometimes twice daily) routine. However, it is imperative especially if you want that flawless complexion that gets the attention you want.
  3. Do I need a toner? Well, it all depends on your skincare system. Are you using a cleanser with an acne treatment mask? Then, yes. The toner will help freshen your face before you apply the moisturizer. Certain types of cleansers also help enrich the texture of your skin so a toner is an added benefit and continues to freshen and rejuvinate the skin before that mosturizer is applied. However, some facial cleansers have multiple features such as a cleanser that tones and exfoliates, thus removing the need for an extra toner and exfoliating mask.
  4. Choose a moisturizer. It doesn't matter whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin. Just make sure that the moisturizer you use is specific to your skin type. Choosing the wrong moisturizer (as well as the wrong cleanser) could actually change the balance in your skin and cause another reaction that you may not like. So, do your research and choose the one that's right for you. Moisturizer also helps your foundation apply smoothly, which brings me to my final step.
  5. Choose the right foundation shade. I always tell my clients that if they wear no other piece of makeup that they should definitely invest in a good foundation. Foundation helps give a smooth, clean appearance to your face. It also helps protect your skin from the dangerous particles looming around you waiting to infest your skin with their bacteria! It's true! Just think about it. On a nice spring day, you usually see a greenish tint on your car from the pollen. You may not have seen it fall yet it's still there. Putting foundation on is like the wax that you put on a car that just gives it that extra sparkle your car needs to make it seem brand new again. Be brand new everyday. Wear foundation!
Well, that's my advice for today. There are so many brands of facial cleansers, moisturizers, toners, and even foundations available. Just do your research and make sure that if you have any special skin care needs you take those into consideration.

Alright my fabulous ones....stay beautiful.
